shenstone Environment group
Shenstone residents set up this group as part of the thriving Community Library - run by volunteers on behalf of Staffordshire County Council. Saved from closure, our Library is now a thriving community venture welcoming people from all around who share our love of books, coffee and cake!
We are supported by Shenstone Parish Council in relation to its environmental policy, and guided by the Green Libraries Manifesto https://www.cilip.org.uk/page/GreenLibrariesManifesto which the library’s management team signed in January 2023.
Our aim is to inform and inspire people to take positive action to address environmental damage and to raise awareness of issues around climate breakdown. Underpinning this is a desire to celebrate the diversity of our wildlife.
We run events and activities throughout the year, we have a wildlife garden, recycling centre, monthly repair café, and a thermal camera available for Staffordshire library users to borrow.
Sustainability in the community is hugely important to us which is why we offer recycling for a range of household items including reading glasses, ink cartridges, bras, stamps, yarn and tablet blister packs.
